69th Georgia 4-H Congress

July 18, 2011 4-H'ers from across Georgia convened in Atlanta for the 69th annual Georgia 4-H Congress. Congress is a culmination of achievements of the 2011 4-H year. In addition to recognizing winners in a multitude of areas, project competition is held in 4-H projects as well as Leadership in Action.  4-H'ers enjoy the opportunity Thursday to visit donors and supporters and tour locations throughout Atlanta.

Tuesday Congress opened with thrity-one 4-H'ers receiving scholarships to continue their educations.  Over $28,000 in funds were awarded to graduating seniors and college students representating every corner of the state.  Nita Waters, volunteer from Floyd County was also honored as the outstanding volunteer of the year.

Tuesday evening during the Georgia 4-H Foundation Leadership Banquet, eight 4-H'ers were recognized for their work as community leaders.  Morgan Bowen and Crystal Buckingham earned state honors for their projects and became now Master 4-H'ers.  Danny Dorminy, Stephanie Hill and Crystal Buckingham each received $500 grants to support their community projects.

Wednesday night capped  of project competition with a Night at Six Flags.  After a picnic in the parking and an evening of rides, 250 youth gathered in the Crystal Pistol to hear the results from the 2011 State Competition.  Forty-eight high schol age youth earned state winner honors.
